Job Description

ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT / TEAM

Housekeeping is an operational department in a hotel, which is responsible for cleanliness, maintenance, aesthetic upkeep of rooms, public areas, back areas and the surroundings.

THE IMPACT OF THIS ROLE

Responsible to oversee the team of linen and uniform attendants towards achieving the operational objectives while ensuring that the hotels operational standards are met.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration

  • Assists the Assistant Executive Housekeeper in the smooth and efficient running of the Housekeeping department, ensuring that all the policies and procedures outlined in the Departmental Operations Manual are strictly adhered to.
  • Ensures Housekeeping service standards are in accordance with the Operations Manual.
  • Logs daily events in Supervisor’s Logbook and follow-up on information reported by the other Supervisors daily.
  • Prepares worksheets for daily Housekeeping Attendants.

 Customer Service

  • Ensures Housekeeping Attendants deliver the brand promise and provide exceptional guest service at all times.
  • Ensures Housekeeping Attendants also provide excellent service to internal customers as appropriate.
  • Handles all guest and internal customer complaints and inquiries in a courteous and efficient manner, following through to make sure problems are resolved satisfactorily.
  • Maintains positive guest and colleague interactions with good working relationships.
  • Ensures Rooms Division meets the Hotel’s targets in the areas of Guest Satisfaction Survey and Customer Audits.

Operational

  • Works with the Assistant Executive Housekeeper to prepare weekly work schedules, making sure that they reflect business needs and other key performance indicators.
  • Issues and keeps record of master keys.
  • Ensure linen and laundry supplies are ordered and controlled.
  • Ensure the conveyor belt is on working.
  • Ensure high standard of personal presentation, grooming and hygiene.
  • Ensure a clean and tidy wardrobe room at all times.
  • Issue uniform to all employees and maintain uniform records
  • Assigns duties and responsibilities to Housekeeping Attendants.
  • Collects report from previous shift Team Leaders.
  • Obtains and follow-up handover work from previous shift Team Leaders.
  • Assist in all physical inventory of linens and supplies.
  • Reports and follow-up on repair and maintenance.
  • Reports lost and damaged items.
  • Ensures all company minimum brand standards have been implemented, and that optional brand standards have been implemented where appropriate.
  • Responds to the results of the Consumer Audit and ensures that the relevant changes are implemented.
  • All other duties as required.

 Personnel

  • Ensures the punctuality and appearance of all Housekeeping Attendants, making sure that they wear the correct uniform and maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene, according to the hotel and department’s grooming standards.
  • Supports Departmental Trainers through ongoing feedback and assistance at monthly meetings.
  • Develops the skills and effectiveness of all Housekeeping Attendants through the appropriate learning, coaching, and/or mentoring.

 QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

 Required Skills –

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the basic primary language of English used in the workplace.
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
  • Thorough knowledge of Housekeeping materials.
  • Proper handling of cleaning equipment and materials, for cleanliness of all guestrooms, corridor and pantry areas.
  • Work across all areas to ensure that guest expectations are exceeded and standards are consistently maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school or equivalent education required.

 EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 yeas of prior experience as a Laundry manager.
