The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the efficient and safe operation of all plant systems, equipment, and maintenance activities within the property. This role ensures the protection and longevity of the asset by managing structural aspects of the building and coordinating ancillary repairs. The position plays a critical role in maintaining operational excellence, safety standards, and the overall integrity of the property infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include advising senior management on engineering support, environmental best practices, and operational efficiency. The Director of Engineering ensures effective financial management of the department by setting and monitoring maintenance budgets, capital works programs, and engineering plans. This role also involves planning and administering energy management initiatives to reduce consumption and enhance profitability, while fostering staff awareness through training programs. Additional duties include ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and fire codes, maintaining preventive maintenance programs across all property areas, supervising external contractors, and ensuring the quality of work meets engineering standards. The Director of Engineering also contributes to guest satisfaction by ensuring technical support services are responsive and courteous, represents the department in management meetings, and leads recruitment and talent development initiatives to build a technically competent team.

The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge and experience in managing hotel engineering operations, with a strong understanding of facility regulations and safety standards such as OHSA, EPA, ADA, CFC, and NEPA. Strong interpersonal skills, service orientation, discipline, and a focus on safety are essential, along with analytical capabilities. Candidates should also hold a diploma or degree in a relevant engineering discipline or possess progressive work experience supported by certifications. A minimum of 10 years’ experience in hotel engineering operations is preffered, including at least 5 years in a leadership role such as Assistant Director of Engineering or equivalent.
