Rosewood Blue Palace is seeking an Assistant Director of Engineering to join the pre-opening team at our inspiring property in Eastern Crete.

 

THE IMPACT OF THIS ROLE 

 

Works closely with the Director of Engineering to ensure the efficient and safe operation of all plant, equipment, ancillary maintenance and repairs towards protection of the property asset including structural aspects of the building. Maintains the condition of the physical assets of the hotel by carrying out any upgrading and project work in liaison with designated internal department and / or external consultants as agreed.

  

Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, and within the limits of the hotels policies and procedures provide advice to senior management on all aspects of engineering support, environmental best practices and controls and the operational efficiency of the property.

 

Shows team leadership through the organisation, supervision and motivation of the engineering team ensuring comprehensive support for active and preventative maintenance issues across the property. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Financial

  • Ensure the cost effectiveness and technical efficiency of all services performed by outside contracts by close supervision. Ensure work is carried out in accordance with contracts, leases, services agreements and warranties.
  • Reviews energy conservation initiatives to ensure minimum energy and utility consumption without sacrificing human comfort.

 

Operations

  • Take initiative and ownership of making decisions and actions timely and independently. 
  • Assist in the planning, implementation and administration of an energy management program 
  • Ensure associate’s awareness of energy management within the property by conducting regular education and training programs on energy conservation and matters related to efficient operation of equipment in a cost-effective fashion.
  • Contribute to guest satisfaction standards by ensuring that technical support services quickly address, and where possible, anticipate, individual needs.  Ensure the safety and comfort of guests and that any requests for service are handled in a courteous and efficient fashion.
  • Ensure adherence to all statutory regulations and fire codes by regularly reviewing policies and safety procedures.  Ensure that any tests and inspections required on plant by statutory authorities are carried out as and when required and that all records and documentation associated with such tests and surveys are correctly kept and/or displayed.  Ensure that the hotel fulfils all compliance requirements. 
  • Develop, manage and maintain preventive maintenance programmes for:
    1. All mechanical and electrical systems.
    2. All guest rooms and public areas (in conjunction with the Housekeeping team).
    3. All kitchens and restaurants (in conjunction with Director of Food, Beverage and Executive Chef/ Director of Culinary Operations).
  • Assist the Director of Engineering to ensure compliance with the Operational Review Management (OMR) and take responsibility for all follow up and corrective action as maybe needed to ensure compliance with company guidance.
  • Develop and update policies and manuals, as related to the department, for implementation in the field, while ensuring compliance to the same for consistency across the group.

  • Through people leadership, provide others with a clear direction and set appropriate standards of behavior. Motivate and empower others by delegating work appropriately. Provide associates with development opportunities and support. 
  • Ensure technically competent engineering associates by selecting, training and developing a motivated, well-qualified engineering team.   
  • Ensure the quality of all work completed by both associates and external contracted associates adheres to the standards of good engineering practice, and that all safety rules are consistently applied.
  • Foster the development of a positive work environment for all associates. Mentor all levels of associates through formal and informal meetings, discussions and performance feedback. 
  • Establish and maintain effective internal communication and meeting structures to ensure optimum teamwork and productivity.
  • Proactively drive high levels of associate engagement by ensuring regular conversations and communication through department meetings, one to ones, performance appraisals and all associate meetings.
  • Foster a culture of recognition by promoting hotel recognition programmes and divisional incentives.
  • Maintain discipline within the Hotel and conduct disciplinary and grievance interviews with all relevant associates and as and when required with the Talent & Culture Department.
  • Operate an efficient and well organized division, ensuring all associates are well trained and highly motivated.
  • Take an active role in ensuring compliance with training requirements in conjunction with Talent & Culture.
  • Actively participate in recruitment and succession planning, ensuring the right people are in the right roles, to meet both current and future needs. 
  • Model the company culture, vision, mission and core values at all times, actively driving the vision and values across the hotel.

  • Strong guest centricity skills. 
  • Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering function with a proven track record in strategic engineering leadership delivering effective strategies, policies, processes and systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Engineering related qualification. 
  • Experience at a senior management level within Engineering. 
  • Analytical mindset and data based decision maker.
  • Proven strategic project management and delegation skills.
  • Experience managing complex budgets including capital expenditure.
