General purpose:
This role is responsible for overseeing a wide variety of guest water and outdoor activities including traditional Hawaiian canoe paddling, surfing, snorkeling, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing as well as sharing the aloha spirit by being part of Cultural activities that bring together guests and Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort. In addition to this, the position is responsible for creating a unique and unforgettable experience for our guests in every interaction directly with the Kilo Kai team as well as assisting the Director of Guest Experience to ensure guest satisfaction across the resort while succeeding the highest expectations of service and continuously meeting LQA and brand standards to maintain Kona Villa a Rosewood Resort as the Best Ultra luxury Resort worldwide while providing friendly, professional, efficient, and flexible service following any Procedures Policy to maximize guest satisfaction while assisting.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute our customized programming to include ocean sports and activities, fitness, mobility, and wellness.
- Conduct group and private sessions across disciplines such as outrigger canoe paddling, stand up & prone paddleboarding, snorkeling & ocean swimming, kayaking and physical fitness.
- Ensure safe, effective, and professional guidance in all experiences, adapting to various fitness levels, health conditions and physical abilities.
- Integrate Cultural various activities including but not limited to frond weaving, ukelele lessons, storytelling.
- Collaborate with the Spa’s Asaya program to create unique wellbeing experiences.
- Inspire and motivate guests through compassionate coaching and genuine engagement.
- Maintain impeccable presentation of Kilo Kai oceanfront area and all equipment ensuring safety, cleanliness and ambiance standards and expectations.
- Contribute creative input toward new program offerings, signature experiences and lifestyle offerings.
- Adhere to health, safety, and certification requirements that uphold Rosewood’s brand values and service culture.
- Adherence to established opening and closing requirements and standard operating procedures for each and every guest program and experience.
- Provides ocean safety and security for hotel guests utilizing the ocean, trail & outdoor areas. Assist individuals in their evaluation of ocean usage; help to minimize personal injury.
- Maintain game area in order, clean and updated when required for new items as well as include this area for various activities with guests.
- Keeps informed and updated on all Emergency Procedures and assists in the coordination of and participates in rendering aid and emergency procedures as required for the Beach and Pool areas within scope of practice. Patrols area.
- Maintaining LQA and brand standards in all interactions with guests as well as adhering to Sense of Guidance Book for all interactions with team associates.
Supportive Functions
- In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions:
- Reports all suspicious persons, activities or hazardous conditions to Security and management. This includes ensuring the safety and well being of the green sea turtles and monk seals that come upon the shoreline to bask.
- Works with little or no supervision.
- Observes safety rules at all times and applies them to guests as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

,ability to interact professionally with others, handle high-pressure situations, possess great attention to detail and be a reliable part of the team. - Ability to maintain a positive self motivated work attitude.
- The individual must possess the appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to explain and demonstrate that he/she/they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Abide by the Sense of Guidance Handbook.
- Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
- Experience in handling Guest Complaints to a positive result and report to manager on duty.
- Experience with working with Outside Vendors/Tour Operators.
- Strong knowledge of Hawaii Island (and other Hawaiian Islands) including tourist activities, restaurants, shopping and history recommended.
- Ability to continually update knowledge of island and State through close contact with the Guest Experience staff.
- Familiar with current events and surrounding places for guest’s enjoyment.
- Ability to follow instruction, direction and meet deadlines. Minimize wear and tear and damage to equipment through regular inspections and scheduled maintenance.
- High level knowledge of the ocean and current conditions in the immediate area of the hotel.
- Establish priorities, organize, and follow up.
- Maintain confidentiality in guest information and information pertinent to the hotel.
Education
- Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- High school degree.
- Higher education or training of any kind related to the Kilo Kai Waterman 1 position.
Experience
- Prior guest services, hospitality, fitness, wellness and recreation experience preferred.
- Knowledge of fitness: outrigger canoe paddling and/or sailing, personal training, cross-fit style coaching & training, performance breathing, stand up paddling, prone paddling, ocean swimming, snorkeling, freediving, and surfing.
Physical Guidelines
- Be able to complete a 500 Meter Pool or Ocean Swim in 10 minutes or less.
- Be able to complete a1000 Yard Beach Run followed by a 1000 Yard Ocean Swim in 30 minutes or less.
- Be able to complete a 400 Yard Rescue Board Paddle in 4 minutes 30 seconds or less.
- Be able to complete a 25 meter swim non-stop underwater
- Be able to complete a 1 mile run in under 10 minutes
- Be able to complete a 5k run in under 30 minutes
- Be able to complete a Prone Paddleboard 1 mile in less than 20 mins
- Be able to complete a Stand Up Paddleboard 1 mile in less than 25 mins
- Ability to lift 50lbs
Certifications
- American Red Cross Certification in First Aid, AED and CPR required. (or equivalent)
- American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Certification. (or equivalent)
- Safe Boating Certification through the State of Hawaii
- Personal Watercraft Operator Certification through the State of Hawaii (may be completed after hiring.)
Salary: $30.00/hour
