A Day in the Life

As an Accounts Clerk at Rosewood Amsterdam, your day starts with reviewing financial data and preparing reports that contribute directly to the smooth operations of our luxury hotel. You’ll be part of the finance team, assisting in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and income auditing, with the flexibility to step into different roles as needed. Your responsibilities range from processing invoices and reconciling balance sheets to ad hoc analysis and performing surprise checks to ensure all internal controls are met. Job Overview

The Accounting Clerk is an essential part of Rosewood Amsterdam’s finance team, assisting in all aspects of the hotel’s financial operations, from month-end processes and weekly pay runs to daily income audits. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance, you will be a versatile member of the team, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a high standard of service in all financial activities. The small and engaged Finance Team consists of the Director of Finance, Assistant Director of Finance and three Finance clerks; working closely together with the Purchasing Department.

Key Responsibilities

Monthly and Daily Operations:

  • Reconcile daily revenue and system activity. Investigate any discrepancies.
  • Prepare and post month-end accruals, supporting monthly financial statement preparation.
  • Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and file supporting documentation, resolving reconciling items monthly.
  • Develop and update policies and manuals ensuring compliance.

Accounts Payable and Receivable:

  • Process invoices through SunSystems and Birchstreet, preparing AP batches for timely vendor payments.
  • Review open purchase orders monthly with the Director of Purchasing and manage chargebacks per credit card policy.
  • Establish and maintain the overall billing process though regular credit reviews.
  • Manage the credit card process, including reconciling receipts and controlling any charge backs. 

Audit and Compliance:

  • Review documents provided by the overnight FO team related to PMs or AR accounts, folios checked out to City Ledger.
  • Balances revenue and settlements between Micros (POS) and Opera (PMS)
  • Prepares and posts Income and Cash journals daily, reviews clearing accounts. Books and reconciles the bank daily.
  • Prepares Income Audit Package and routes for management review and approval. Investigate and report all discrepancies in it.
  • Conduct property surprise checks to assess internal controls in key operation finance areas and key control initiatives in internal audit and policies, spot cash counts, etc.

Guest Service and Support:

  •  Operate within tight response times to internal and external guest queries, maintaining clearcommunication. 


Critical Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with guests,suppliers and team members.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently, adapting to various tasks with creativity and flexibility.Challenge the status quo.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch is an asset.

Experience

  • Familiarity with hotel internal control systems and procedures is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Birchstreet, Opera, and SunSystems is advantageous.
  • 2-3 years of experience in accounting within an international hotel setting.
