A Day in the Life
As a Steward at Rosewood Amsterdam, your day begins with ensuring the kitchens and service areas are impeccably clean and well-prepared for the day’s operations. You’ll support the culinary and service teams by maintaining a hygienic environment, operating dishwashing equipment, and handling various cleaning and maintenance tasks. Whether you’re washing dishes, polishing silverware, or assisting with event setups, your attention to detail and dedication to cleanliness will play a vital role in delivering seamless service. At the end of your shift, you’ll take pride in knowing that your contributions have supported the success of the hotel’s dining experiences and events.
Job Summary
The Steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the kitchens, dishwashing areas, and other back-of-house spaces. This role supports the overall success of the hotel’s outlets and events by ensuring all equipment and facilities are in excellent condition, in compliance with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Excellence:
- Report to the Stewarding Team Leader daily to receive assignments and updates.
- Sweep, mop, and scrub floors, as well as clean worktables, sinks, walls, ceilings, air vents, refrigerators, and other kitchen areas.
- Operate dishwashing machines to clean and sanitize plates, cups, silverware, and other dishes.
- Wash pots, pans, and cooking utensils by hand or machine, and clean cooking equipment thoroughly.
- Sort and prepare dishes for washing, removing food residue, and ensuring efficient loading of dishwashing machines.
- Polish silverware using the appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Transport trash to disposal areas, clean trash cans, and maintain stock of paper towels and soap dispensers.
- Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas as needed.
- Assist in setting up service tents and supporting events.
Standards and Compliance:
- Ensure all dishwashing and cleaning equipment is maintained and used correctly.
- Follow HACCP regulations and hotel health and safety standards.
- Report any building or equipment defects according to hotel procedures.
- Attend safety and risk prevention training, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the culinary and service teams to ensure a smooth flow of operations.
- Maintain open communication with the Outlet Manager or Assistant Manager to address any challenges or needs.
- Assist in keeping storage areas organized and ensuring supplies are well-stocked.
Safety:
- Use personal protective equipment and adhere to all safety guidelines for the role.
- Be familiar with the hotel’s evacuation and emergency protocols.
- Report any accidents or safety hazards immediately to management.
Skills & Qualifications
Experience:
- Previous experience in a similar role in a hospitality or kitchen environment is preferred but not required.
Skills:
- Knowledge of kitchen hygiene and cleaning practices, including the safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to operate dishwashing machines and other kitchen equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining cleanliness and safety standards.
- Good physical stamina to handle the demands of the role.

- A team player with a positive attitude and a proactive approach to tasks.
- Strong sense of responsibility and the ability to work independently.
- Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic environment, including evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
