THE IMPACT OF THIS ROLE

Set and develop strategies aligned with organizational vision and future aspirations. Take a long-term and big-picture view of the business. Communicate compelling visions and translates that into plans and actions.

Provide strategic leadership, functional guidance and valuable insights to Operations Leader, Partner, Executive Committee and Department Heads for optimal business decision. Responsible for maintaining the hardware and software of the property’s computing and communication environment. Work with the hotels senior management team to evaluate equipment, search for alternatives and recommend improvements. Carry out central administrative activities in accordance to with standard operating procedures as issued set forth by the hotels senior management team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial

  • Demonstrate sound business acumen by keeping up to date with market trends and industry dynamics. Identify business opportunities for the organization. Demonstrate financial awareness by thinking in terms of profits, loss and added value. Deliver tangible business results.
  • Plan and manage the departmental budget and the IT capital expenditure program for the hotel in partnership with the Hotel Manager and Director of Finance Business Partner.
  • Identify opportunities for cost-effective investment of financial resources in IT systems, including staffing, sourcing and purchasing.
  • Improve work productivity through the use of multi-skilling, multi-tasking and flexible scheduling to meet the financial goals of the business as well as the expectations of the guests.

Operations

  • Take initiative and ownership of making decisions and actions timely and independently. Take calculated risks and makes considered decisions based on information and intelligence across the organization.
  • Develop, maintain and review the company project program in partnership with the Corporate Digital Business & Transformation senior management. Ensure projects are delivered on schedule that meets the agreed objectives and business needs.
  • Manage and review the overall implementation of IT projects.
  • Communicate and provide recommendations to senior management in areas of IT expertise.
  • Manage relationships with strong business acumen & communication skills. Innovate, influence and lead Hotel and Outlet management as well the Property Owner groups through complicated IT projects, planning and decisions.
  • Ensure the continued, uninterrupted operation of the hotels and other business units, IT infrastructure and systems required for the company’s services, secure from threats and operating within agreed performance metrics.
  • Implement a continuous measurement, review, audit and benchmarking process to monitor the security, capacity and performance of systems.
  • Regularly review, monitor, audit & report on user access and permissions to hotel & corporate systems and assets.
  • Monitor Service Level Agreements (SLA) for local systems/vendors. Monitor and Report performance on centrally agreed SLA’s for the business units.
  • Work with the Corporate Digital Business & Transformation senior management to plan schedules and priorities and respond to any major issues.
  • Facilitate consultation with stakeholders to define business systems requirements for new technology implementations.
  • Responsible for the management of IT and systems risk & compliance.
  • Ensure that all the IT equipment include network equipment; PCs and printers are managed and maintained properly.
  • Ensure that all the computer users of each application system are maintained and updated in properly and timely manner
  • Control, review and evaluate continuously existing configuration.
  • Administer and maintain the use of all mobile phones and LAN phones throughout the organization.
  • Assist in the development of business process modifications and updates including the design and implementation.
  • Assist with transformation programs, hotel openings, focus groups.
  • Capture, rationalize and champion evolving business requirements.
  • Deliver the brand promise and provide exceptional guest service at all times.

Team

  • Through people leadership, provide others with a clear direction and sets appropriate standards of behavior. Motivate and empower others by delegating work appropriately. Provide associates with development opportunities and support. Builds capable and diverse teams.
  • Foster the development of a positive work environment for the department’s associates. Mentor all levels through formal and informal meetings, discussions and performance feedback.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal communications and meeting structures to ensure optimum teamwork and productivity.
  • Proactively drive high levels of associate engagement by ensuring regular conversations and communication through department meetings, one to ones, performance appraisals and all associate meetings.
  • Foster a culture of recognition by promoting hotel recognition programmes and divisional incentives.
  • Maintain discipline within the department and conduct disciplinary and grievance interviews with all relevant associates and as and when required with the Talent & Culture Department.
  • Operate an efficient and well-organized department, ensuring all associates are well trained and highly motivated.
  • Take an active role in ensuring compliance with training requirements in conjunction with Talent & Culture.
  • Actively participate in recruitment and succession planning, ensuring the right people are in the right roles, to meet both current and future needs.
  • Model the company culture, vision, mission and core values at all times, actively driving the vision and values across the hotel.

  • As the hotel’s level of business varies considerably, there is a need for flexibility in attitude, approach and working hours.
  • The IT Manager’s dual reporting responsibilities could potentially give rise to a situation where there is a conflict in the property technology leader responsibilities. Such a situation can usually be resolved by referring to the Company’s Policy and Procedures Manuals and / or HMA documents. In the event that the manuals / documents are not specific or applicable, and the RVP Hotel Operations and the Senior Corporate Director – Property Technology are not able to come to a mutually satisfactory agreement, the Chief Information Officer - Global should be consulted.

  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
