OVERVIEW
The Director of Engineering at Rosewood AMAALA is responsible for providing strategic leadership, and operational excellence across all engineering, maintenance, energy, sustainability, and technical services within the resort. This role ensures that all facilities, equipment, utilities, systems, and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Rosewood’s ultra-luxury standards and A Sense of Place philosophy.
As a key member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Engineering plays a critical role in pre-opening readiness, asset protection, preventive maintenance planning, sustainability initiatives, and ongoing operational integrity across buildings, accommodations, associate facilities, technical plants, and critical systems. The role ensures full compliance with local regulations, environmental guidelines, safety standards, and corporate engineering policies while delivering a seamless experience for guests and associates.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide overall leadership and management of the Engineering Department, ensuring smooth operation of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, civil, and technical systems.
- Develop and implement comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs to protect assets and ensure long-term equipment sustainability.
- Oversee all pre-opening engineering deliverables including commissioning, snagging, asset tagging, system handover, and contractor coordination.
- Ensure compliance with local laws, municipal regulations, safety codes, and environmental standards applicable to resort operations.
- Manage and supervise emergency procedures, life-safety systems, fire protection systems, evacuation plans, and safety drills.
- Monitor and optimize energy usage, water consumption, and utility performance through sustainability and cost-control strategies.
- Oversee maintenance of guest villas, suites, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and associate accommodations.
- Collaborate with Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B, Security, and other departments to resolve engineering requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Review and approve engineering work orders, service requests, and maintenance schedules.
- Manage engineering contractors, service providers, AMC partners, and technical consultants ensuring performance meets contractual obligations.
- Support procurement in technical specifications for equipment, materials, and engineering-related purchases.
- Oversee facility inspections, audits, utility readings, and system performance checks.
- Ensure engineering documentation, logs, manuals, warranties, and maintenance records are kept up-to-date and compliant.
- Prepare and manage annual engineering budgets including CAPEX planning, project proposals, and cost forecasts.
- Lead engineering project planning including renovations, upgrades, expansions, and energy-saving initiatives.
- Serve as the technical advisor to senior leadership during emergencies, technical failures, or system outages.
- Provide strong leadership, coaching, and development to the engineering team including supervisors, technicians, and specialists.
- Promote Rosewood values and service excellence through high engagement and a positive work culture within the Engineering function.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity in handling all operational matters.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 10–12 years of progressive engineering experience within luxury hotels, resorts, or high-end mixed-use developments.
- At least 5 years in a senior engineering leadership role (Chief Engineer / Director of Engineering).
- Strong experience in pre-opening environments, commissioning, and large infrastructure management preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems, HVAC, BMS, life-safety systems, sustainability practices, and energy optimization.
- Experience managing large teams, complex facilities, and multi-building operations.
