The General Houseman is responsible for maintaining a clean, well-stocked section assigned, this includes cleanliness on guest floors, and hallways. Deliver and retrieve guest requests in a timely manner.  Prepares equipment for our Attendant’s. Receive and store Housekeeping supplies and linens and keeping Housekeeping front and back of house spaces clean and tidy. 


Expectations:

-       Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards.

-       Report to work at the scheduled time in the housekeeping office, neatly groomed and in clean uniform and polished shoes as per standard.

-       Ensure that standards are maintained at a superior level on a daily basis.

-       Recognize and report all missing, damaged or sub-standard furniture, fixtures and equipment.    

-       Respond to guest and management requests timely and professionally.

-       Anticipate guest’s preferences and provide high-standard of guest service.

-       Comply to the regular general cleaning schedules of all areas assigned.

-       Move and remove furniture in guest related as well as office space.

-       Communicate with fellow Associates and other departments to ensure guest/Associates needs are met.

-       Ensure that all reports, task sheets, etc., are filed accordingly.



Job Duties

-       Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of guest corridors/foyers by performing wall-/door washing, vacuuming, dusting of crown molding, millwork, furniture, artwork, baseboards, interior window, mirror cleaning, high dusting and cleaning of all light fixtures including ceiling fixtures.

-       Cleans the elevator tracks of the guest floor corridor elevators on a regular basis.

-       Fulfill any guests’ request e.g. laundry pick-up, delivery of toiletries and any other requests.

-       Brings, collect rollaway, baby cribs and other guest request items, Clean and stack neatly etc.… to designated point for collection by Houseman. When no longer needed, collects from designated collecting point and brings to final storage point (checks if clean, and in good working order).

-       Refill housekeeping closets and lift-landings and ensure that enough stock of amenities, supplies and linen are placed on each floor/area.  

-       Collect and deliver fresh and dirty linen and ensure that trolleys are filled effectively.

-       Restock linen from laundry onto the shelves in the housekeeping department.

-       Collect all trash and brings it to the compactor, ensuring it is handled as instructed.

-       Sweep and wet-mop all emergency staircase as per schedule. Check daily and pick up any debris.

-       Collect new store supplies and equipment and place in the proper storage areas.

-       Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of all back of house areas, including areas such as offices, closets, corridors, and all Housekeeping storage areas.

-       Maintain vacuum cleaners and other equipment by cleaning up, changing bags when needed.

-       Prepares AM and Turndown trolleys for Attendants as per standard before their shift starts.

-       Assist in performing inventory of linen, guest request items, amenities etc.

-       All other duties as required by management within the scope of the position.

-         Buff housekeeping hallway daily as needed.

-         Provide aid to the room attendant throughout the day with linens or any other supply as needed

-         Remove dirty linen from guest rooms and trash

-         Make up rollaway and store.

-         Make up baby cribs and store.

-         Refill room attendant’s chemical bottles

-         Pick up/assist with new supplies at loading dock.

-         Store room attendant’s cart inside the storage room/re-stock.

-         Must be able to perform special projects assigned by the supervisor.

-         Must be able to assist in other duties like helping help Turndown Attendant, Public Area attendants or other housekeeping positions.

-         Duties are not limited to list above; General Houseman must follow any /all housekeeping directives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Physical Demands


  • Able to stand, climb stairs, reach, bend, stoop continuously and for long periods of time.
  • Must have ability to lift up to 25lbs on a regular basis, and occasionally up to 50lbs.
  • Must have ability to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 150lbs on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must be able to walk extensive hotel grounds to provide service to all guest rooms.
  • Able to drive safely a golf cart.

Health & safety standards


  • To be aware of and comply with safe working practices as laid down by the Health & Safety Act.
  • To report any defects in the building plant, or equipment according to the Hotel Procedures
  • Reports all suspicious persons or actions, hazardous conditions, etc. to the Security Department.
  • A warm, people-oriented demeanor, a “team-first attitude”, exhibit a friendly, helpful and courteous manner when dealing with guests and fellow Associates.

Experience:  Minimum one year’s experience as a cleaner / houseman for a luxury or ultra-luxury hotel or resort

Education:

o   High school or equivalent education preferred.

    • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
    • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks.
    • Must be a self-motivator and motivator of others.
    • Must possess the ability to work with a smart phone
    • Must have a commitment to follow all local and corporate policies and procedure as they relate to Talent & Culture.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Must have superior organizational skills.
    • Must have experience in customer service.

General Skills: Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy; prioritize, organize and follow-up; be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment; follow directions thoroughly; understand a guest’s service needs; work cohesively with fellow Associates as part of a team; work with minimal supervision; maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.

Technical Skills: Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, requirements, and use of equipment, knowledge of proper chemical handling.
